Beatriz Herzberg

Beatriz Herzberg has a background in Arts Education and Community Building. She studied at Evergreen College developing her own major combining Sociology and Studio Art. Art has always been her language for connection and her path forward for building a better world. After graduation she worked at the Lincoln City Cultural Center designing curriculum and teaching art classes for Lincoln County Elementary students. She ran programs at the Center for children, teens, and adults and was the director of the Ceramics Studio.

She is passionate about the intersections of self-expression and art for building healthy, dynamic communities and is most proud of her work cultivating a volunteer group at the center that became a strong eco-system of support and friendship for the participants.

Currently, she teaches a Jewish teen art program at a local synagogue combining themes of identity, Jewish Symbols, and history with craft and ritual objects. She has filled in for Teaching Preschool Partners as an Arts Exploration Teacher at Preschool for All sites and is passionate about Reggio Emilia as a way to reimagine and expand education. She draws on her embodied knowledge of the power of this mode of teaching as a student in one of the first Opal School classes. Erin Moulton was her first grade teacher, and an ever inspiring presence in her life. The way Erin treated each student with deep respect, curiosity and reverence, created an internal roadmap for how Beatriz approaches her work and interactions with children. Beatriz is mama to a toddler who shows her joyous new ways to look at the world daily. She is excited by the power of early education now more than ever.
