Guiding Questions for Community Building

Community building is an active process that takes place during the entire year, and especially when we welcome students to a new group, fostering a sense of belonging is key. TPP and our partner educators in Albany, OR, met a couple times to discuss how this community building process unfolds in the classroom.

With the purpose of using intentional language as a tool to build community, Jasmine Ottoman – one of our partner teachers – curated this handy list of questions from our Field Guide to help build a supportive and connected classroom environment. Jasmine extracted the questions from multiple “Stories from the Field”.

When educators ask thoughtful and intentional questions, they create a space where children feel heard and valued, fostering trust and respect:
